Election 2012: More than just a President

We are already locked in under Obama for another 2 1/2 years. The new Supreme Court Justice nominee is being ‘grilled’ this week. Luckily she’s one of the good ones. Elena Kagan will be nominated no matter how many tantrums the Republicans throw out there. What we need to worry about is who becomes President in 2012 because the next Supreme Court Justice nominee can really sway what direction America goes.

The President is important, yes. He is our icon, our face, our leader. He can hire and fire people, and he can try to push whatever agenda he wants, for the most part. What the President doesn’t have is the power to change the course of American history in one single vote. This power rests in the hands of the Supreme Court. These 9 justices are what makes the major decisions that really impact our lives. Just look at the Citizens United case. The Court ruled that Corporations have the same rights as humans do under the First Amendment. And what was granted to them was the right to spend unlimited amounts of money on political broadcasts. This case goes much further, so please research it in-depth. The court granted this power to the Corporations, and even foreign corporations have this same power. Foreign? Really? This was a major setback in what Americans have fought against for so long. This is why the 2012 election is more important than just electing a face, an icon.

In 2012 we face either Obama, or a Republican. What you get with a Republican, coupled with the Citizens United case, is the possibility of getting a Corporate spokes dummy in the Supreme Court. America cannot survive if that happens. So much corporate money will be pumped into advertising and the election of a Republican to ensure that the next Justice is bought and paid for. We cannot let this happen. If you’re a Democrat or Independent that disagrees with Obama, at least know that his Supreme Court Justice nominee will be fighting the fight for Americans not AmeriCo’s. Or quite possibly ForeignCo’s. So, America’s survival isn’t just pinned on how the next Court votes, it’s also pinned on YOUR next vote.

Unfortunately, we’re stuck with a corporate spokesdummy regardless of Party affiliation. Obama and the Dems are further to the right than the Republicans of Nixon’s time (through Reagan’s first term actually) and there seems to be no end to the blatant corporate collusion perpetuated by both parties.

Is Obama truly a ‘lesser of two evils’? Perhaps, but the lines between ‘left’ and ‘right’ are being blurred in perpetuity until we actually take a stand against the Corporate control of Democracy regardless of the ‘D’ or the ‘R’ after our elected officials names.

hear hear. I do believe Obama is a centrist, looking more like a corporate Dem, a 2010 Bill Clinton, as his term goes along. But, I have hope, perhaps naïve, that Obama can shake loose the corporate tentacles of his peers.

I’m not sure what it will take for people to take a stand. I mean, people are out there at tea party rally’s protesting against ‘BIG’ Government and Corporations, yet the tea party they melt over is spearheaded by the Corporatists they think they’re rallying against. Corporations win in any situation. America needs to be dropped to it’s knees before it can rise up and stand strong and be the idea that it once was. Time will tell. Keep up the Dissent & Reason!

It amazes me the outcry over “big government” by so many — especially the tea party — considering our Government has turned into an arm of the giant Industries that control the majority of wealth and resources around the world. Government is playing a significantly smaller role in our lives than it ever has before, yet we get caught up in the misinformation and rhetoric that exists mostly to keep us fighting each other rather than looking at our system with any sort of rational and reasonable critique.

Now that a Democrat is in office (and a black man at that), the reactionary arm of the right (pretty much every arm of the right) goes absolutely nuts because that’s what they’ve been programmed to do. Never mind that Obama is following the identical path of war mongering and Corporate Welfare and collusion that W before him did.

Likewise, when W took office, the left went nuts over his policies even though they were identical to those of Clinton before him. It is unfortunately a never ending circle jerk of reaction and divisiveness as we continue to be controlled by the same corporate interests; and that’s just the way they’ve designed it to be.

I wish I could convince more people on the left and the right to start recognizing that we’re just falling into line when we scream at each other because both sides have been brainwashed into believing their side is the right side (in black and white clarity) while both disregard that their side is the same frickin’ side. We’re all just consumers and commodities as far as the real rulers of our system are concerned and we will remain that way if our ignorance continues.
